Ecosystems create climate: biodiversity as a Global Player in the history of earth

BiK-F scientists were able to expose that not only climate affects the distribution of life on earth. It also happens conversely: Vegetation cover shapes the climate globally. The working group of BiK-F-scientist Dr. Arne Micheels used a model to test which worldwide climatic changes were triggered by the development of Sahara 10 million years ago. The results, announced in the journal Global and Planetary Change, reveal: The distribution of vegetation on earth is one of the most influential factors to climate.
