Press ReleasesClimate change was mammoth doomFrankfurt am Main, August 18, 2010. After the height of the last ice age 21,000 years ago, the mammoth followed the retreating glaciers into the cool egions of the northern hemisphere. There, the impressive animals became extinct 13.000 years ago as well as other big mammals like woolly rhinoceros or cave lions. Up to now many scientists have been holding glacial hunters accountable for this mass mortality. But a new study shows: mankind probably wasn’t the main cause of the extinction of mammals. The actual cause was more likely the changing climate. Copyright © Mauricio Anton (http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/2.5/deed.de) |
