DM-2: RANGE SHIFTS, VEGETATION DYNAMICS AND ECOSYSTEM PROCESSES 

Climate change has had a strong impact on species distributions and ecosystem functioning in the past, and massive future changes would be expected as a result of the climatic changes projected for the coming decades and centuries. We develop simulation models in order to improve our understanding of the impacts of climate change and to be able to project such impacts into the future. Various data types concerning past changes and current patterns from all PBs are used to parameterize and test our models. Our main model types can roughly be categorized as i.) species distribution models and ii.) Vegetation dynamics and ecosystem processes models. Ecosystem processes include, e.g., biomass production, and the cycling of water and carbon at local to global scales.
