A1.14: CALCAREOUS NANNOPLANKTON

Research interests

• Calcareous nannoplankton diversity, ecological and evolutionary implications of size changes related to environmental parameters, especially ecology of Emiliania huxleyi and testing the influence of environmental parameters on the morphology of coccoliths
• Size of the coccoliths used as possible proxy for salinity using SEM techniques and growth experiments
• Growth experiments with different E. huxleyi strains to investigate the diversity (genetically) and morphometry, differentiation of morphotypes
• Reconstruction of salinity using coccolith morphology in the Mediterranean Sea during the Holocene
• In general, phytoplankton ecology, diversity and interactions of phytoplankton with their abiotic environment in marine and freshwater systems
