Coral reef ecology in the Western Indian Ocean and Arabian Region and the effects of climate variability and change, with a particular interest in the marginal coral communities of the Arabian Region (Red Sea, Gulf of Aden and Arabian Gulf) as a window into the future.
Taxonomy and biogeography of corals of the Indian Ocean and Arabian Region
Mapping and monitoring of tropical marine habitats using remote sensing technologies 
Biogeography and ecology of islands

Marine spatial planning and management for protected areas and integrated coastal zone management
Tropical marine ecosystem function and services under climate change
